(The Amityville Horror story was exposed as a hoax long ago.) That's not to say that I think Colton actually visited heaven-I don’t, and we will discuss why momentarily. But overall, the book is clean and has an engaging plot. There are some mature themes and some intense scenes that would scare little kids. This is definitely a YA book as opposed to a children’s novel.The world building and fantasy creatures are interesting and well developed. I haven’t read a lot of fantasy lately so I enjoyed the change of pace. A great fantasy world and a generous mix of magic and reality.Marillier certainly did her research and has created a beautiful setting for her story. What a fun fantasy retelling of the 12 dancing princesses! Finally, this time I both picked it up and read the entire novel before it was due.
